Actor Owen Wilson reveals his father has Alzheimer’s disease

Hollywood actor Owen Wilson opens up about how he and his family are coping with his father’s Alzheimer’s disease.He’s a movie star best known for his roles in blockbuster comedies such as Zoolander and Wedding Crashers, but Owen Wilson, 46, recently revealed a more serious side when he discussed how his father has Alzheimer’s disease.‘You just have to do your best to deal with it,’ he told the Dallas Morning News. ‘You’ve got no choice but to accept it.’Owen’s father Robert, 74, a long time TV executive, is being cared for at home but his diagnosis was, his son admits, a ‘rough thing’ for the whole family, including his actor siblings Luke, 43, and Andrew 50, and wife Laura.‘If someone had said 10 years ago, when my dad and I were joking around having a putting match, that this is the position your dad’s going to be in, where he basically needs 24-hour care, you’d think, ‘Gosh, I won’t be able to handle that. That’s just not possible”,’ said Owen.But like so many others, the Wilson family have learnt that it helps to stay positive. ‘You still look for the things to be grateful for,’ Owen explains, adding that his father is being cared for at home and has people around who love him.The star of Marley and Me and Midnight in Paris is now a father of two sons himself, one-year-old Finn, and four-year-old Robert, named after his dad.For more tips on caring for someone at home, click here.
